The mons pubis is the area at the top of your groin, between the lower abdomen and genitalia. Women often gain some “puffiness” or fat in this area due to weight gain, pregnancy, or aging. This hormone-dependent fat in this area is normally exercise and diet-resistant. It often appears to be bloated or sagging, which can cause problems when wearing tight-fitting clothing. The removal of excess fat from the mons pubis can be done with either liposuction, monsplasty, or a combination of both procedures.
HOW TO CHOOSE A SURGEON
Gynecologists, urogynecologists, and plastic surgeons constitute the vast majority of specialists performing mons pubis liposuction. It’s crucial to select a surgeon with extensive experience and appropriate training. During your consultation, ask to view before and after photos to assess the surgeon’s work. Note that some surgeons may not publicly display these images due to privacy concerns or consent issues. Dr. Judy Wei is a fellowship-trained board-certified OB/GYN and she completed an aesthetic vulvovaginal one-on-one surgical preceptorship.
